Today is an exciting day, as we are finally making this corner of the World Wide Web a reality. Today we launch The Bloom Workshop blog and we couldn’t be more thrilled you’re here! We have big plans for this blog. We envision it being a way to further connect with the Bloom community through sharing business, blogging, photography and design tips, inspiration, and practical tools for you to implement now. We love the community Bloom has created, so we wanted to share our story of starting this workshop with you.
MICHAELA: I graduated with my bachelor’s degree in interior design from Seattle Pacific University. While I was in college, I started my blog chronicling my time through school, so when I graduated I had already built up a substantial following. This afforded me the freedom to start my own design business, Michaela Noelle Designs, soon after graduation. I absolutely love what the home represents to a person or family. Serving other's through residential design is my joy and I'm grateful to be in business doing something I love.
ASHLEY: After traveling the country with my husband for two and a half years and blogging about our travels, I realized I had a passion and love for taking pictures. Initially this started out as wanting to have good photos for my personal blog, but quickly blossomed into working with real people and capturing real moments. I fell in love with the way photos tell a story and knew it was for me. Ashley Slater Photography opened for business in 2012, and fine art film photography has become my niche.
A: We met through blogging in 2011 and clicked immediately! As our individual businesses grew, we realized we were both spending a lot of time offering advice, answering emails, and essentially consulting for other business owners and new bloggers. Michaela and I both love taking other businesses and blogs to the next level, so while brainstorming ways to do this together, we thought of offering a one-time workshop.
M: At the time, I lived in California and Ashley was in Michigan, so the thought was put aside as we each continued to learn, grow and work hard on our own personal businesses. Fast forward a few years, and I relocated to Michigan where Ashley is based, so we finally decided it was time to explore the workshop idea again. In the spring of 2014, our first official Bloom Workshop took place in Rockford, Michigan and sold out in just five hours! Because of the success and positive feedback of the first workshop, we decided to officially launch The Bloom Workshop, taking the events all around the country.
A: Before launching Bloom, we put countless hours of thought into it. In a sea of workshops, conferences and events it is important that Bloom remain accessible and unique. That’s why we focus the bulk of our material on practical tips. Don’t get us wrong, we love getting inspiration from the community within Bloom, the Internet and other industry professionals, but we want to be a community of getting out there and actually creating.
M: Rather than sitting behind our screens and admiring, we encourage our readers and workshop attendees to put together styled shoots, practice new skills, and come up with ways to become great at your craft. Starting and succeeding in business takes work, hard work, and your business needs a clearly defined strategy, mission statement and practical tools to succeed. Do we believe in having passion as the foundation for business? Absolutely. But we also know that a business built on passion alone is destined to fail and we want to equip you with every available tool to make your business, blog or brand a long-term success.
Thanks for being here, we can't wait to get to know you! To celebrate the launch of our blog, we are giving away some of our favorite things from vendors and artists who have been a part of our amazing Bloom Workshop swag bags.
