Bloom Bash Austin Recap
Last August we got together with 25 women in Austin, TX for our two day event, Bloom Bash. Thanks to our sweet friend, Shalyn Nelson, we have some gorgeous photos of the event to share with you today. Our workshop took place at the beautiful Mercury Hall right in Austin. Its all-white walls and colorful stain-glass windows were the perfect backdrop for our learning!
Our first morning always starts out with check in where we finally get to meet and hug the ladies who we’ve been waiting for for months! Once checked in, the gals get to enjoy a yummy breakfast and this time we had something really special— Creature Coffee came to make our guests pour over coffees! It was so fun to see the girls using their new Sweet Mint Handmade mugs and enjoying the delicious coffee.
Our attendees were greeted with their gift boxes upon finding their seats! In it was a pair of boot socks from Grace & Lace, druzy stud earrings from KNS jewelry, ribbon from Adorn Company, a yummy candle and adorable matches from FoxBlossom, a gorgeous seeded card from Of the Earth, a stunning watercolor print from Blushed Designs, and baskets from Box + Bow. We loveeee spoiling our attendees with sweet things throughout the workshop!
After introductions we dive right into our teaching session on why blogging is important for your business and how to actually do it. Next we go right into branding and how important it is to have a recognizable, authentic brand that fits your business. This time is not just a lecture, though! In between our points and slides, we give breaks to walk around the room and brainstorm certain topics like blog post ideas, mission statements, ideal clients, and more.
After a wonderful lunch by Whim Hospitality, we sat down for our brush calligraphy class, taught by Jessica, of Simply Jessica Marie. She’s such a lovely teacher and so talented at her craft! All the attendees loved her. While not everyone is an artist who attends, this session is meant to get our hands on something new and creative, inspiring us in unique ways! And who knows, sometimes some attendees are really gifted at this and then they start writing calligraphed notes to their clients as a part of their branding.
On the afternoon of Day 1 we break for breakout sessions, which include learning to shoot in manual while practicing on beautiful details and how to create and execute a styled shoot.
After our breakout sessions we enjoy dessert by Feather’s and Frosting (possibly the most photographed dessert bar we’ve ever had!) while gathering with our critique groups, where we get brave and show our websites and social media to everyone in our group. The goal here is to help everyone walk away with a few things they can improve on their online presence. We’re all in this together!
That’s a wrap for Day 1!
On the morning of Day 2 we enjoy breakfast together while answering some “Table Talk” questions with our tables, then we dive head first into all things social media. We go through each form of social media and describe how you could use it for your business. While we don’t think everyone needs to use EVERY platform, we do encourage our guests to be thinking of a couple they can use well and that make the most sense for their creative business. Again, this is a very interactive session where we stop and discuss certain things and even learn how to take better pictures on our phones!
Our floral arranging session is one of the most loved parts of our workshop, for good reason! While we usually have a couple of florists by trade attending the workshop, this session is important for everyone because it steps us outside of our norm, teaches us important elements and principles of design (like color, texture and balance!) and of course, totally inspires us. We never say no to flowers ;)
Mercedez of The Heirloom Table taught our session and she was so, so amazing. Such a great teacher, kind person, huge heart, and one of the most talented floral designers we know. So honored to have her!
More breakout sessions are next— and on Day Two they are a bit more “advanced”. The ladies can chose from 3 breakout sessions: flat lay styling a bunch of gorgeous invitation suites with Simply Jessica Marie and Michaela Noelle Designs, how to create a bridal bouquet with The Heirloom Table, or The Client Experience with Ashley Slater Photography.
We’re always blown away by our student’s work!! Look at those flat lays:
Day 2 is full of fun and it’s all about hands-on learning. Next up is our styled shoot where we put together a gorgeous photo shoot complete with a tablescape, models, dresses, centerpieces, invitation suites, dessert and even more to let them style and photograph! They get to use these photos in their portfolios after the workshop as well.
After the shoot, we head inside to talk about how and why to get published. Each guest was greeted with one of our favorite magazines of all time, Flutter. It’s such an inspiring editorial!
After that, it’s time for an amazing dessert made by our girl Danae of Feathers and Frosting, the same talent behind our styled shoot cake! Then the attendees settle in for the Q&A Panel, where they get to ask a panel of Creatives their burning questions. It’s such a fun time and so beneficial to our guests as they hear different perspectives on many topics.
This was just SUCH a great group of women. We always feel so honored to be a part of someone’s creative business owner journey!
It was SUCH a fun workshop with some truly amazing ladies. We can’t wait to come back to Texas (this time Dallas!) in 2019. Learn more about our Bloom Bash Dallas 2 workshop HERE!
